Wood stairs for home
Wood stairs are the most popular in country cottages. They are quite durable, easy to install and, if necessary, can be transferred. The twist of this stairs can be done through adapter plate or two or three intermediate stages.
Stairs can be manufactured in a modular design: they can be easily installed in an already built house during the renovation or landline built-in, which are established during the building.
In the photo above you can see the stairs that are easily made with your own hands.
Steps should be better made of solid wood because they don’t have to bend. They will do with oak or beech board with a thickness of 30 millimeters. As support beams, you can use a bar with a thickness of 100-110 mm, the bowstring of supporting steps will do with the beams of 70-80 millimeters.
Try to hammer as less as possible nails in the design of the stairs try, and it is best to use grooves and spikes with gluing with carpenter’s glue. Nails become loose over time, their hats begin to creep up and may injure the feet as it looks in the photo, or even lead to the destruction of the stairs.
Wood stairs with metal base
You can use the angle steel from which the frame is created as the basis of steps. In this embodiment, g shaped ladder has a rigid construction, and you can use boards with a smaller margin of safety as planks for treads because the metal base will not allow them to bend.
A metal base can serve as a basis for a circular staircase, which also saves living space.
The welded frame will be the sturdiest because here the screws are screwed with steps of wood. If you want your ladder to be light, don’t make the width of a march less than 110 centimeters, unless of course, it allows the architecture of the house.
Railings can be made of metal, giving them an elegant look, with the help of artistic forging. The height of handrails should be around 100-110 inches. If you have small children, it would be nice to attach an additional railing for kids.
Staircases from concrete
In a big stone house, it would be appropriate to establish a ladder of concrete slabs and metal. This ladder can be done by hand. The photo below shows how it can be beautifully fit into the interior of the building. Concrete stairs can be used for the equipment of the porch of the building.
They are reliable and almost eternal. They do not vibrate or bend down.
The stairs in the house are not only a tool for moving between floors but the same element of the interior as a cabinet or a painting hanging on the wall.
At the base of the porch, it is necessary to set the grate for cleaning shoes and a hanger so you can release your hands from the bag to open the lock.
Stairs of concrete may be cast or modular.
Modular stairs can be bought ready-made in specialized stores.
If you want to have the molded stairs, you have to make the formwork, where you should pour the concrete, starting from the porch. After hardening of the cement, the steps should be processed with abrasive or covered by any decorative material such as marble tiles.
These steps can also be used to drain the pool or a basement because they do not corrode like metal or rot like wood.
Metal stairs
Metal stairs are often installed as the slave to provide a second exit from the building. The image below shows examples of such type of stairs. You may easily make them with your own hands if you know how to use a welding machine. Usually, these ladders have steps and are not located on the front side of the building.
Ladders, metal ladders can be used to provide access to the attic or the roof, such as installation or repair of the antenna.
If you decide to install a metal staircase inside the house, then you need to consider its design. Staircase with stainless steel railings fits the interior in modern style.
If your house is more like a house hunter or artist, then perhaps you would be closer to the design of the staircase with wrought iron elements. Examples of stairs in this style can be seen in the photo.
Glass stairs for the cottage
It is a special kind of stairs that looks aesthetically pleasing, but requires careful selection of materials and calculations, starting from the porch to the top step. After all, glass is fragile, but a durable building material.
Glass stairs can be fastened to a metal base or supports of glass, as shown in the photo below. One side of the stage can be fastened to the wall.
You need to install a sturdy railing from the porch to the top, because, despite the original appearance, it is not very usual to walk on such stairs and you may feel dizzy. Therefore, in some cases, it would be appropriate to install stairs made of opaque glass.
Glass stairs have to withstand heavy loads and not be cracked upon impact. Therefore, they are made of laminated glass with the use of polymers (tempered, laminated glass). Also, they are covered with a special coating that prevents slipping for safety.
You can use different pads:
- single corner and aluminum profile;
- double without bracket with the aluminum profile;
- single rubber without an aluminum profile.
A big rubber gasket is laid on the porch.
Stairs can be u-shaped; in some cases, they are more advantageous from compactness.
Transparent staircases look very impressive with stainless metal or aluminum.
Cantilevered stairs
This type of stair is only fastened by one side to the wall. They are typically installed during the building of the house.
They look very interesting, creating the effect of “stairs floating in space without support.” But you should pay special attention to the holding power of this design because the load on them is not small. The ladder does not use any stringers or stringers.
If you want the stages to be firmly held in the wall, they should be laid to a depth of not less than 25 centimeters (one brick).
The width of a ladder march of such steps is, as a rule, wider than the normal 1.5 m. The output of steps is most time-consuming and requires careful calculations.
